Liz's Homemade Vanilla Sweet Cream Cold Brew
0 comments
Today we recreate the popular Starbucks Vanilla Sweet Cream Cold Brew.
In this recipe, we'll craft our very own cold brew from scratch, make fresh vanilla syrup, and whip up a luscious sweet cream to bring it all together. Not only will this save you money, but you'll also have the satisfaction of sipping on a gourmet coffee made by none other than yourself. Let's brew some magic!
Ingredients:
Cold Brew:
- 1 cup coarsely ground light roast coffee beans
- 3 cups filtered water
Vanilla Syrup:
- 1/2 cup white sugar
- 1/2 cup hot water
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
Sweet Cream:
- 1/2 cup 2% milk (or your choice of milk)
- 2 tablespoons heavy whipping cream
- 1 tablespoon homemade vanilla syrup
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Additional:
- Ice cubes
- Optional: milk frother for texture
Instructions:
1. Cold Brew Coffee:
- Start by combining 1 cup of coarsely ground light roast coffee beans with 3 cups of cold filtered water in a French Press.
- Mix well and let it steep overnight at room temperature.
- The next day, press down the plunger of the French Press and pour the coffee into clean bottles for storage.
2. Vanilla Syrup:
- In a heat-resistant container, mix together 1/2 cup of sugar and 1/2 cup of hot, boiling water.
- Add in 1 tablespoon of vanilla extract and stir or shake vigorously until the sugar is completely dissolved.
- Transfer the syrup to a mason jar and—voila!—it can be kept in the fridge for up to two months.
3. Sweet Cream:
- In a small bowl, whisk together 1/2 cup of milk, 2 tablespoons of heavy whipping cream, 1 tablespoon of the vanilla syrup you just made, and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract.
- For added texture, use a milk frother to give the sweet cream a frothy consistency.
4. Assembling the Drink:
- In your favorite glass, add some ice cubes.
- Pour two tablespoons of vanilla syrup over the ice, followed by the cold brew coffee, filling about two-thirds of the glass.
- Gently top your cold brew with the sweet cream you've just frothed.
- Give the drink a gentle stir to incorporate the syrup at the bottom, if desired.
- Enjoy the sublime taste of a coffee-house classic made right in your own kitchen.

Prep Time: 15 minutes (excluding steeping time for cold brew)
Cook Time: 0 minutes
Total Time: About 8 hours and 15 minutes (including steeping time for cold brew)
Equipment: French Press, heat-resistant container, mason jar, small bowl, spoon or milk frother.
Servings: 3
Cooking Tips:
- If you're planning ahead, make your cold brew and vanilla syrup in advance. The cold brew can be stored in the refrigerator and the syrup stays fresh for a long time.
- For an even richer vanilla flavor in your syrup, use a seeded whole vanilla bean instead of extract.
- Use freshly ground coffee beans for the best flavor.
